Had a good concert night last night. Saw the Bosstones, the best dressed band in the country. Was quite fun.

They played the Vic in Chicago and had 3 other bands with them. Don't know the names of the first two bands. One was bad - i.e., not tight. The second was tight but mediocre.

When I was in line for the show, I couldn't figure out why there were so many teeny bopper girls waiting to get in. I mean, when did the Bosstones become a chick band. Well, the third band (Simple Plan) was the reason. They're friggin' N'Sync or something. They were so "dreamy", and they "loved Chicago" - at least that's what they kept saying. At that point, you could tell the Bosstone fans, because they were either the ones flipping off Simple Plan through their entire set or the the ones who headed for the bar and stayed there...

But when the Bosstones came on, the place went nuts (of course). Eight guys in suits - who wouldn't go nuts? And their dancer. What a great gig! How did he hook up with the band? What's his story? Just some balding, middle-aged dude in a suit with enough energy to power the place for a week jumping and thrashing all over the stage. Fun stuff.

BTW, here's how raw42 describes Illumined Pleasures.

Illumined Pleasures Idm
Jazzy, swinging free form IDM. Quirky little blips and bleeps with lightly funky deep bass and fusion styled beats.

:: DJ 9:19 AM [+] ::
...
Not sure why, but I also jumped from 31 to 19 on the raw42 charts. I guess maybe some of my songs were put forward for ads or something. That's all I can think of as a reason...

Illumined Pleasures is number 24 on the mp3.com World IDM charts today!

It's funny. I used the same loops in a drum 'n' bass attempt at a song about 6-12 months ago. The song was rejected by raw42 (as it should have been - I listen to the original now, and I think "lame").

I was revisiting some old songs and thought the loop selection was good, but I had failed during "implementation". So I started from scratch, added a couple of loops, messed with some fx's on the loops, cut up some of the loops and re-arranged them, and, eventually, came up with Illumined Pleasures.

It just goes to show that the more you keep at this stuff, the more you learn and the better you become - just like everything else in life, I guess.

Current songs published by raw42 along with descriptions provided by raw42 when they exist:

Ambient
Simple Non-Linear Melancholic Swirl: Gentle ambience with rolling backing and pensive piano. Stays on one level throughout.

Down Tempo
Atmosherocephalic: no real intro as such with this one, just straight in with lighty jumpy beats, smooth floating underwater styled fx and a deep sub bassline.. very groovy with a definate non-aggressive feel to the whole track
Bog: Slow but interesting mechanical intro with low bassline and ambient pads. Futuristic and methodical with a sense of expectancy.
Brevity: Dark minimal trip hop beats and gentle, subtle synth lines and echoed effects. A belchy and rugged ambient backdrop suitable as background music.
Morphological: Airy echoing chillout with a slow beat and drifting melodies potentially useful as a good atmospheric visual backdrop.
Placid Abstraction: Minimally funky intro slides into slow tempo floating pads and carries on in same vein throughout.
Serene Anguish

Electronica
Chthonic Cerumen: Techno digital intro with minor IDM tendencies sit overtop light experimental melody with small percussive elements.

Experimental
Premature Ossification: snappy hats combine with deep bass and mysterious pads
The Honorable Margaret Chase Smith

IDM
Understanding The Breakdown Of God: laidback yet tense beats with world music influenced vocals

Trip Hop
Bansuri Summer Sturm und Drang: A low-key blippy scientific illbient affair with unusual sounds and plodding underlying percussion combined with eerie/avant-gard effects and synth lines. Subtle, unusual, somewhat experimental.
