Just updated my radio station on the site. Follow the 'Radio Station' link and look towards the bottom for new songs I've added by The Knotts, Aerial2012, ean | productions and Gilles Vittecoq - all fine mp3.com artists.

On a side note, I've jumped up to number 19 on the raw42 charts. I guess that's what happens when you have a song accepted, have a song put forward for a commercial and submit a song - all in the space of a couple of days.

I'm surprised by some of the song appearances in the latest rankings. A couple of techno and trance songs from my Swamp CD have hit the charts. Swamp was a fairly interesting experiment for me. It was a transition CD. I had just begun experimenting in the ambient realm on Glacial and decided that it would be interesting to mix it up a bit. On Swamp I begin with an ambient song in the key of A (Bog), and then using one or two of the loops from the first song, I shift keys to B and morph into a techno song (Marsh). I continue in the same vein of moving some loops forward to the next song and alternating keys and styles for the entire CD. Of course, each song is named by a synonym for Swamp in order to maintain the "theme". So without further delay...

All right, so nothing gets done when you have guests in for the weekend...but I did at least work on my 'Hermetic' song long enough to realize I'm probably going to trash it. I might be able to salvage the weird ambient dissonance I have going on, but I definitely need to replace the bass lines I'm using, and if I do that, then the drums are in question too. Damn.

I think tonight is going to be one of those nights when I stay up with a pot of tea after everyone else has gone to bed and work on CD art for Technique and maybe add some new songs to my radio station. If the urge takes me, I'll work on the song I started in August on a lake in rural Maine.

The song is titled 'Hermetic' for now. I started working on it at about 5 AM one morning. The sun was just beginning to come up, but it was still dark when I started. It was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and I was in the living room of an old cabin with a sleeping bag wrapped around me, looking out over the foggy, foggy lake. My laptop was running off batteries since there were no 3-prong outlets in the cabin. As the sun rose and the song developed, the fog became more whispy and wraithe-like.

It's been in an unfinished state since that morning when my low power alert on the laptop advised me to save what I was working on and shut down. Maybe it's time to finish it up...

Well, not a lot of promotion and/or creation going on these days. Morphological is going to be put forward for a UK commercial, but that's about it. Not holding my breath, but at least it's a shot. I REALLY need to have 24 hours without distraction so that I can finish up 2 songs that are in process, finalize my CD art for Technique, and go through my voluminous email and add people to my radio station (and maybe have them add me to theirs in return).

There seems to be a spike in demand for 20-minute techno songs. 6 Apparitions Of Lenin In A Cowfish Opus, Opus To Zarathustra And Misc Cowfish and Cowfish Opus To The 5 Rings Of Musashi rank 10, 11 and 12, respectively, on the highly competitive Chicago techno charts. These songs represent my "toe-dipping" into the processes of "automatic music". I developed a 10 minute structure that repeats twice in each song then used the same structure with different (though similar) loops to generate the three songs.

On another note, Serene Anguish is number 76 on the Chicago Electronic charts.

3 songs in the Chicago Electronic Top 100 - not a bad performance. Looks like some of my local promotion has paid off a little. I had some business cards printed up a while back, and now wherever I go, I leave some behind. Yesterday I distributed quite a few. Going to a charity event on 'The Spirit Of Chicago' tomorrow evening. Burning a CD of my raw42 accepted tracks right now. Will talk to the Event Planner (brother of a co-worker) about possibly using me as a down tempo DJ at some of his events. Will give him a copy of the CD I'm burning now as a set sample. Use my usual trick of ramping up from 70 BPM to a climax of 112 BPM then back down to 80 BPM to finish over 52 minutes. Not a bad sample set. Will see what happens.

And after 3 more songs are accepted by raw42, I will have about 60 minutes of music, and it will be time to start shopping for a CD deal...

Had a great punk rock weekend (last weekend). Went to see the Suicide Machines at the Metro; they were there with Gob and Guttermouth. Of course, my friend and I were the oldest one's there, but we had a great time.

The Suicide Machines have 4 "major label" (Hollywood Records) releases - I guess it would be more accurately stated that they have 4 CDs that get distribution. The first album is their best, mixing ska, hardcore and metal (usually all in the same song) very well. Their 2nd is pretty good, being mostly hardcore. Their 3rd (done around the time they were touring with No Doubt) is an ill-advised trip into pop-dom (in other words, it stinks). Their latest is back on par with the quaility and style of their 2nd CD.

During the show, they played mostly songs from their 1st and 2nd albums with a few new songs and hardly anything from their 3rd CD. Great show. Lots of energy.

Gob are the clown princes of punk rock. Each song featured an ironic metal pose by some member (or multiple members) of the band. Lyrically they're like NOFX. Awesome and entertaining.

Guttermouth proved they were lovers, not fighters. It was lady's night on stage with various female members of the audience and entourage making appearances. Also very entertaining and they worked the crowd well. I, of course, enjoyed the fact that the bass player wore a Bollweevil's T-shirt - which was a great example of synchronicity (plate of shrimp), since my friend and I were discussing the fact the crowd in the mosh pit were much more polite than in the late 80s/early 90s when we were frequenting more shows - which led to talk of the infamous Bollweevil's show when the band, the crowd and Metro security were in an all out brawl over stagediving. I believe as a result of that show the Metro banned stagediving. Hell, Metro security is giving the crowd near the front of the stage water these days...
